Terra Personas available in Vallromanes

That is what I also like in Spain, the restaurant usages normal rates for the wine.
The wine you buy in the shop around the corner is for a few euro more also available in the restaurants!
Compare that to other countries for instance like Holland the use a 400 %+ formula, and the same wine in Spain costing there 10+ euro in holland 30+ euros in the restaurant.

Attractive price in this Restaurant.

Low pressure = Rain!

Due to the low pressure area we have  rain. The Northern parts of Europe have high pressure = better weather than the time of the year!
The coming days more rain to come here in these regions. Let it come, a good reserve in the soils for the next growing season in 2015.

We are happily finished with the harvest of the olives, more kilos than last year and a nice 19  % of oil extra virgin quality and of course 100 % arbequina.

olives of 2014 Arbequina

The olives harvesting is in full swing. All the trees must get rid of there olives. It is a lot of work and good for the condition. I will recommend this work. You get guaranteed 3 kg less in 2 weeks!

Arbequina olives maduracion

Arbequina green.
A lot of people say the have less olives on the trees, and irregular. A olive is a suborn tree. This year the will give you a lot the next almost nothing! But on the average if treated well the will give you a good harvest.

I love the fresh oliveoil unfiltered and pure! Yeh, fresh squeezed juice and no hassle!

olive oil extra vergine and the free fatty acid content

Often you see the acid % on the label of a bottle of olive oil. The lower the better. Many people do not know what that means.

I hope to explain it here:
Free fatty acids are generated by the existing acids with containing the oil by  itself. These acids which are broken into free fatty acids,(disintegrated)  which can be done  by enzyme reactions with the fat during the process of olive oil.

This starts with the olive, fresh on the tree and with the harvest, with a minimum of bruises. Because bruised olives gives additional oxidation to the oil. The storage and transportation to the oil mill, goes without damage and without too much delay.

The pressing of the oil from the olives, so is fast and clean.( less oxidation as possible) this translates into the free acid%.
Our oil Terra Personas, after analysis 0.1-0.3% free oleic acid. This is very low. The maximum standard for extra virgin olive oil is 0.8%. Without additions, absence of defects, and no solid particles.

So a low free oleic acid is a good indication of the quality of olive oil, but it has no effect on the taste itself! It can be used as a parameter for Quality, but you can actually not taste the difference!!

Polets vinøse

 availabel in Norway:

Cabernet of Terra Personas harvested 13 of Oktober 2014

The harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon in the DO Montsant existed for 7% of all the grapes harvested.
This grape is often used in order to assemble with other grapes. It gives the wine more body and spice, structure. And therefore better depth.
After the winter he awakened late, but is again average ripe, (September, early October harvest).

Gives off a lot of color in winemaking, and good tannins to mature, the flavor they give blackcurrants, plums, spice, licorice.
This species is on R-110 rootstock.

Let it rain!

Please let it rain in Spain we needed!
Due to the high pressure area the northern parts of Europe the have (had) a warm period.
Than "we"on the southern parts of Europe have all the fun!

This year in the summer it has rained now and then, but not were we live. Everytime I see the lightning en rain falling out of the dark clouds, but no drup of water on our soils.

The olive trees needed desperate water, to gain weight on the olives, to be harvesting in november.
Please let it rain.... The chart looks good!  Thanks to the low pressures.

Harvest 2014

The harvest is already started in this region. The white varieties are harvested in the end of august.
Like macabeo e Garnacha Blanca. Follow by Merlot and Tempranillo.
Early-mid september the syrah and thereafter Garnacha.  The last grapes will be  harvested are Carinena and Cabernet Sauvignon in the second week of october.
Garnatxa for the  Terra Vermella 2014
The grapes at Terra personas a suffering due to the lack of water. To be seen on the dead leaves.
But it gives extra power and taste to the grapes also!!

The summer was cool, and have been slowing the ripening process, the last time the temperature has increased again. The aromatic intensity, structure and concentration, which are themselves defined the Montsant wines will play a greater extent in the wines of this vintage. The nature controlled himself.

The harvest in 2014  will be great, but also different. All the berries are not all the same, a bit indifference. This is occurring also in France and the northern parts of Spain.

The DO Montsant will be harvesting around 8 million kg of grapes, and comparing with the total of Spain it is a very small portion. The  DOQ Priorat will harvest around the 5 million kg of grapes.

Salud!

The D.O. Montsant

Founded in 2002, the wine appellation of Montsant ( known as the D.O. Montsant in Spain) has come a long way in 12 years. What started as small subzone of Falset under D.O. Tarragona with only 28 wineries has now grown into a healthy and dynamic independent wine region with 56 wineries to date. In total, the region occupies 2,000 hectares of vineyards, most of which are in the southern half of the region, and produces around 10 million kilos in grapes per year.
In this mountainous and stunningly beautiful region, the air is slightly floral and woody, with the occasional fragrance of mineral or clay kicked up by a passing car or warm breeze. Swallows swoop over almond and hazelnut trees, while small lizards peek out from dry underbrush, quickly scurrying across the dusty soil and out of harms way. Hundreds of fat and furry bumble bees with a pale white backends work diligently to collect pollen from dark purple lavender flowers swaying gracefully in the morning breeze.
The rural pace of life in Montsant is slow and familiar, but for wine, the pace couldn't be more opposing.
To understand DO Montsant one needs to be intimately familiar with its geography, as confusion comes easy here.  To be clear, both D.O. Montsant and D.O.Q. Priorat are located within the political region of Priorat (demarcated by the dotted line on the map). Additionally true, D.O. Montsant forms a perfect ¨C¨ around D.O.Q. Priorat (area in white), thereby making the two inseparable in conversation if we are understand the region in its totality. Serra de Montsant, a major mountain chain running from the NE through the NW of both wine appellations is also a source of confusion, as it is a major player in craft wines of both regions.
A very unique and differentiating characteristic of Montsant is its smorgasbord of soil types, altitudes and climates. Unlike DOQ Priorat, with its famous slate soils, DO Montsant primarily consists of lime clay soils throughout the region, with a spattering of sandy granite in the south and lime and granite in the north, along with odd batches of slate in between.

On average, vineyard altitudes sit around 350-400 meters, but one can also find vines as low as 150 meters and as high as 800 meters near the Serra de Montalt in the southeast and Serra de Montsant in the northwest. Finally, summers here are generally quite dry, while winters tend to see the occasional frost and snow cover. Hence, we can say that most of the region experiences a mild Mediterranean climate with continental influences; however each vineyard throughout this wine region can boast of a very unique micro climate as a result of its location and altitude.
Most of the wines produced here are red, made from the autonomous grape varieties: Grenache (Garnatxa in Catalan) and Carignan (Carinena). However you can also find a fair amount of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.
As for whites, the majority of wines, if not all the wines, are made with White Grenache (called Garnatxa Blanca in Catalan) and Macabeo (Macabeu), two very aromatic and expressive varieties.

Verison 2014 - grapes of Terra Personas

A warm year, started in february march and so on. Thought everything will be early this year. A lot of water in the soils, the vines have grown rapidly. There was hail in the neighborhood in may/june, but not at us, the have made a lot of damage in the other vineyards. We have been lucky.
Garnatxa version july protected with sulfur.

Version started early, but everything seems to be ripe on " normale time". The process slows of.
 The nature controlled himself.
And that is good, nice ripeness, not to hot in the last weeks before harvest. 10-15 deg C differences between the day and night temperatures give a nice process of ripeness of the berries also.
Garnatxa august 2014
All the water in the soils are gone now, manly vaporized due to the sun.The vines have to work hard now, the have some water- stress now,to be seen on the dead leaves at the grape area of the vines.
Garnatxa august
The grapes are growing now, nice small bunches gives nice wines............

The Iberian Despoblado called San Antonio

The Iberian Despoblado ( deserted/abandoned ) called San Antonio, is located in the municipality of Calaceit (Teruel), 2 miles from town, on the hill of San Cristobal. It contains the remains of one of the most important Iberian villages.

Aragon Teruel. The time of occupation is dated between the V and VI centuries BC and destruction and abandonment to the second century BC He had two development phases: an initial, corresponding to V and IV centuries BC, located in the highest part of the hill, and a later, dated between the III and early BC

The town was defended by a wall of hewn blocks of thinness dating from the third century. C, a series of square towers and a moat or circular. Are also preserved remains of a small pool intended for the collection of rainwater.

The urban layout and construction techniques are comparable to other Iberian settlements in the area, which consisted of drawing a central street with access to different units, which are usually rectangular, on both sides. Subsequently, the population settled on the slopes, through terraces and townhouses to the wall. The houses were built on mud or stone on the top. In the bottom of the rock is populated at different heights so it is concluded that these two-story houses had one for housing and a bass that was used as a store, warehouse or block.

Archaeologist Juan Cabre started in 1903 the excavation of this site, which were continuados by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans. It was declared a Historic-Artistic Monument in 1931 and set in the category Cultural Archaeological Site in 2003.

Charaktervolle Weine aus dem Heiligen Montsant.

Source: a respected client of Terra Personas.....

Terra Personas is............. part 5

5   The range of Wines & Olive oil

Our philosophy is to bring quality wines and olive oil with native varietals and typicity of terroir closer to the consumer.

Feel and taste the differences.

Catalonia and specially the Priorat region have a long tradition for the varieties we vinify.
For the olive oil we use only the native variety called ‘arbequina’, with high aromatic qualities.
Our red wines are based on the native varieties Grenache and Carignan that have been growing for many years on lime-clay soils and have developed deep roots to nourish the vines.
The white wine gets its authentic character by the Grenache grape that responds very well in mountain viticulture. Especially the high acidity gives a fresh character to the wine.

Explanation brand and wine naming:
‘Terra Personas’ refers to the Persoon’s family estate and could be translated as the “land of the Persoons”.
In this region the soil has many different colours, from white, which may consist out of chalk (coming from the shelves of the Mediterranean sea many centuries ago) to dark red (heavy clay). The names of the wines are a reference to the different soil composition in our different vineyards.

The aged wine Terra Negra, translated from Catalan into ‘Black earth’.
We have one white wine, the Terra Blanca, translated from Catalan into ‘White earth’.
One young red wine called Terra Vermella, translated from Catalan into ‘Red earth’.

According the quality of the year of harvest we produce a limited edition of rosé wine through bleeding of the Grenache grapes.
